Why is more wood used in American homes?
When I came to America, I was also wondering why there are wooden houses here. Based on what I understand after so many years, I will give this answer.
I went to Nevada, Florida and California where I saw brick and cement houses like India.
Why wooden house?
1. Past: When the British came to America, they had to build a house to colonize and provide a comfortable life. With the help of wood it became possible to build more houses in less time.
2. Availability of Firewood: America has abundant trees and greenery. Wood is available in abundance. Therefore, it is best used for making houses.
3. Cost: Being abundant, wood and trees are available cheaply. The price of wood is not high like cement, grit, brick etc. So that the cost of building the house remains low.
4. Lower Taxes: In many states, builders also get tax credits from the government for building wooden houses.
5. Simplicity: It is much easier to build a wooden house than cement. Within a month, big colonies and big bungalows are being built here.
6. Safety: Wood provides more protection in earthquakes and minor storms. And in wooden houses it is easy to repair any damage.
7. Protection from cold: Wooden house is less prone to cold as compared to cement, tile, cotstone etc.
I myself like cement houses like India more than wooden houses. One of the biggest disadvantages of a wooden house is that a small spark can set the whole house on fire and clear the soup.
