Interesting Fact about Mahabharata

1. When the Kaurava army was losing the battle against the Pandava army, Duryodhana went to Bhishma Pitamah and told him, "You are not fighting this battle with all your might". Bhishma Pitamah became very angry and immediately took five arrows and chanted some mantras. After chanting the mantra he told Duryodhana that tomorrow he would kill the five Pandavas with these five arrows. But Duryodhana did not believe Bhishma Pitamah and took all the five arrows and said that he would return tomorrow morning with these five arrows. The story behind this arrow is also very funny. When Lord Krishna came to know about the arrows, he called Arjuna and said, "You go to Duryodhana and ask about the five arrows. You once saved Duryodhana's life from a Gandharva. Instead, he Asked for one thing to save your life. Time. It has come that you will ask for those five arrows". Arjuna went to Duryodhana and asked for an arrow. Being a Kshatriya, Duryodhana fulfilled his promise and gave Arjuna five arrows.

2. Dronacharya can be considered as India's first test tube baby. This story is also very interesting. Dronacharya's father was Maharishi Bharadwaj and mother Gridhachi was Apsara. One evening when Maharishi Bharadwaj went to take a bath in the river Ganges, he saw that an Apsara named Gridhachi was taking a bath there. Apsara was dressed but the sage was mesmerized by the sudden sight of her chest, navel area and waist and her semen came out of her body which Rushi kept in an earthen pot and kept in the dark. Dronacharya was born here.

(Note:- That is why in the scriptures it is said in the special duties of married women that, "married women should behave in such a way that no other married man can see their chest, navel area, waist; naked without clothes" )

3. Emperor Pandu was a powerful king. When Dharmaraja Yudhishthira was 16 years old, King Pandu died due to the curse of the sage. Just a few days before this he asked his five sons to eat the brain of his father so that he could be made wise and attain Trikaal Gyan. But only Sahadeva fulfilled his last wish and ate his mind. He got information about the happenings in the world for the first time. After the second meal he learns about the things happening in the present and for the third time he gets information about what is going to happen in the future.

4. Abhimanyu's wife Vatsala was the daughter of Balarama. Balarama wanted Vatsala to marry Duryodhana's son Lakshman Kumar. But Vatsala and Abhimanyu were already in love with each other. Abhimanyu took Ghatotkacha's help to find Vatsala. Ghatotkacha scared Lakshman Kumar so much that he vowed to remain unmarried for the rest of his life.

5. Arjuna's son Iravan sacrificed his father to win. She had to be married before she died before she could be sacrificed. But no girl was ready for this marriage because her husband had to die after marriage. In this situation Lord Krishna assumed the form of Mohini and not only married Iravan, but left him and wept like a wife.

6. Sahadeva, who became wise by eating his father's brain. He had the ability to see the future, so Duryodhana went to him and asked about his opportune time before starting the Mahabharata war in Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra. Sahadeva knew that Duryodhana was his worst enemy, yet he said that the time was right to start the war. (Sahadeva suggested Amavasya or the moment of apprehension but Shri Krishna scared Duryodhana by saying that "the new moon is inauspicious", so Duryodhana chose the moment of Mrigashirsha Ekadashi i.e. the eleventh, Sunday of Magasara month)

7. Dhritarashtra also had a son named Yuyutsu. Yuyutsu was the son of a Vaishya (Vanika, present Vaniya) woman named Sugandha. Actually, Yuyutsu was born out of Dhritarashtra's relationship with a maidservant. (Who fought the Kauravas on behalf of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata war and survived the war)

8. During the Mahabharata war, the Udupi king decided to remain neutral. The king of Udupi was neither Pandavas nor Kauravas. The king of Udupi told Shri Krishna that such a large army of Kauravas and Pandavas would need food and we would prepare and feed the armies on both sides. There was never a shortage of food during the 18 Days of War. When the army asked the king about this, he gave the credit to Shri Krishna. The king said that when Krishna eats, he knows from his diet how many people will die tomorrow and the food is prepared accordingly.

9. When Duryodhana was breathing his last in the battle field of Kurukshetra, he raised his three fingers. Lord Krishna went to him and understood that Duryodhana meant that if he had not made three mistakes in the war he would have won the war. But Shri Krishna told Duryodhana that if you had done anything, you would have heard this and placed your finger on Duryodhana.

10. The stories of friendship between Karna and Duryodhana are very famous. Both Karna and Duryodhana's wife were once playing chess. Karna was winning the game when Pandora saw Duryodhana coming and tried to stand up. Karna did not know about Duryodhana's arrival. So Bhanumati tried to get up early, Karna wanted to catch Bhanumati. In exchange for Pandora, Karna got her garland and it broke. By then Duryodhana had reached the room. Seeing Duryodhana, both Bhanumati and Karna were afraid that Duryodhana would think something wrong. But Duryodhana had great faith in Karna. He immediately said to pick up the garland.

11. Karna was very famous for giving charity. When Karna was breathing his last on the battlefield, Lord Krishna tried to verify his donation. He became a poor Brahmin and went to Karna. "Heard a lot about you and I just want a gift from you." Karna replied, "You can ask for whatever you want." The Brahmin asked for gold. Karna says gold is in his teeth and you can take it. The Brahmin replied that I am not so cowardly as to break your teeth. Karna then picked up a stone and broke its teeth. The Brahmin refused to take it too saying that he could not take this blood stained gold. Karna then picked up an arrow and shot it towards the sky. After this it started raining and the teeth were washed.
